2 railway staffers arrested

Pune: A day after four persons were crushed to death and 10 others were injured after a hoarding fell on vehicles at Juna Bazaar Chowk on Friday, the Pune city police arrested a junior engineer and master craftsman of the Indian Railways. The contractor and his labourers are yet to be nabbed.

The arrested accused have been identified as junior engineer Sanjay Singh Vishnudev Singh (57), a resident of Dehu Road and master craftsman Pandurang Nivrutti Wanare (57)  of Kasba Peth. The police have also booked the contractor Mallikarjun. 

Senior Police Inspector MM Mujawar, in-charge of Bund Garden police station, said that the accused persons have been charged for offences under sections 304 (2) (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. 

They were produced before a magistrate court which remanded them in police custody till October 11.  
According to the police, the incident had taken place around 2 pm. The authorities had not taken precautionary measures while dismantling the hoarding which fell on vehicles which had stopped at the traffic signal. 

The deceased were identified as Shyamrao Dhotre (48), Bhimrao Kasar (70), Shivaji Pardeshi (40) and Javed Khan (49). The injured were identified as Umesh More (36), Kiran Thosar (45), Yashwant Khobre (45), Mahesh Vishweshwar (50), Rukmini Pardeshi (55), Devanshu Pardeshi (4), Samrudhi Pardeshi (16), Ramchandra Bhognali (42), Kailash Gaikwad (26) and Shubham Pangul (20).
