2 minors gang-raped near Hinjewadi

Pune: In a shocking incident, two minor girls were allegedly gang-raped in a village near Hinjawadi by a man and his minor accomplice on Sunday. One of the girls died during treatment on Wednesday night.

Based on the complaint from father of another girl, the Hinjawadi police station registered an FIR against Ganesh Nikam (22) and his 16-year-old accomplice on Wednesday. Both the accused are workers at a sugar factory in Kasarsai.

According to police, both the girls aged 12 years were classmates. They had gone to the temple in Kasarsai village around 3.30 pm on Sunday when the accused persons lured them to the jungle behind the temple under the pretext of giving chocolates and then gang-raped them. They had threatened to kill them if they revealed anything about the incident to anyone.

DCP Namrata Patil said, “The girls were frightened and did not tell anyone about the incident. One girl complained of stomach ache (on Tuesday) and she was taken to Aundh Hospital and later to Sassoon Hospital. The doctor realised this is a case of rape and informed the police station. The girl was not in the condition to give a statement. While the Hinjawadi police located other girl and gave confidence to her parents to register a case. We have taken immediate action and nabbed both accused.

Unfortunately, the girl who was undergoing treatment at a hospital died on Wednesday night.”

Senior Police Inspector Shivaji Gaware, in-charge of Hinjawadi police station, added, “After being informed on Tuesday night, our team went to the hospital and tried to get more information about the accused persons. But her condition had deteriorated and she had slipped into the coma. While inquiring with her mother, we learnt about the other victim. We traced her and after giving confidence to her parents, they lodged an FIR. The accused was arrested and produced before a court which has remanded him to seven-day police custody. The minor boy has been sent to observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board.”

Earlier police had registered an FIR for offences under sections 366A (procuration of minor girl), 376D (gangrape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

DCP Patil added that after the death of the girl more charges will be added against the accused person.
