2 held for chain-snatching

The police said Ali is a criminal on police record in Delhi for robbery cases

Pune: A journalist with a local magazine in Pimpri, who is also a member of a self-proclaimed anti-corruption organisation, was arrested for involvement in five chain snatching cases. His accomplice from Delhi was also arrested. 

The Wakad police nabbed them while investigating a case of chain snatching that took place on May 29 with the help of CCTV footage. Later, he was identified as Naseem Sadiq Usmani, a resident of Thergaon, who works as a reporter. His accomplice Mohammed Sharafat Hussain Ali (24), a native of UP was also arrested. 

DCP (Zone 3) Ganesh Shinde said they had admitted to the chain snatchings and targeted elderly women. 

The police said Ali is a criminal on police record in Delhi for robbery cases. 

The investigating team included Senior PI Satish Mane, PSI Harish Mane and policemen Vikram Kudal, Vijay Gambhire, Ashok Dudhwane, Pramod Kadam, Vikrant Gaikwad, Sham Baba, Nitin Gengje, Madhukar Chavan, Bibshan Kanherkar, Anil Mahajan, Sunny Jondhale and others.
