Pune: While coming down heavily on traffic violators, the Pune police are also taking action against the cops who are letting traffic violators go after accepting bribes from them. In a recent incident, two traffic police constables have been suspended by the traffic division of Pune police.

The suspended traffic cops were identified as Constable Dinesh Gajghate and Mangesh Jadhav who were posted at Bund Garden traffic division.

According to the police, on the evening of September 2, the two constables were on duty at RTO Chowk. They observed a four-wheeler parked in a no-parking area and approached the vehicle. While questioning the car driver, they discovered that he did not have the car permit and asked him to pay a bribe of Rs 6,000. However, later the car driver was released when a bribe of Rs 500 was paid by the owner of the car.

Tejasvi Satpute, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “The matter was reported to me by the car driver. As per the allegations made by him despite informing the constables about the processing status of his permit, they asked him to pay a fine. He called up the car owner who send two of his friends to the spot and paid a bribe of Rs 500 to the constables.”

“The complainant informed that the car was immediately released after the bribe was given to the constables.

We have suspended them for conducting an impartial investigation and not as a punishment. If they are found guilty, we will take appropriate action against them and if we find that the complaint was filed with nasty intentions, we will take action against the complainant.”
