Pune: A case of casting couch has emerged when a 19-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the director of a Marathi film during the audition on Sunday at Kalewadi. A case was registered at the Wakad police station.
The accused director was identified as Appa Pawar who conducted the audition at a location near Tapkir Chowk in Kalewadi.
Pawar was conducting the audition to cast the role of second lead for his film titled as ‘Paus’.
The complainant, who is a student in a private college, said that she came to know about the audition of the film through a WhatsApp message on Saturday. She called the number mentioned in the message and was asked to come for the audition on Sunday evening.
However, when she reached the spot on Sunday she was asked by Pawar for sexual favours in return for the role.
Sangeeta Ghode, Police Sub-Inspector, Wakad police station, who is investigating the case, said, “Pawar wanted to exploit the girl and demanded sexual favours from her. During the audition, he acted in a lascivious manner with her. However, the girl refused to accept his demands and left the place. She was in a state of shock and approached the police three days later.”
“We don’t have details of Pawar who is at large. We are investigating the matter and will arrest him soon,” added Ghode.
The police have registered the case under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the India Penal Code.
