18k rescued in Pune division

PUNE: The administration has claimed that around 18,000 people have been rescued in Pune division following incessant rains in the last few days. Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said that rivers like Pavana, Indrayani, Mula and Mutha have filled completely, while Varna, Panchganga and Krishna rivers in Kolhapur are overflowing. 

Mhaisekar said that in Satara district, Koyna, Krishan, Tarli and Urmodi rivers are overflowing. “Compared to the average rainfall, this year, there has been 125 per cent rainfall in Pune about 99 per cent in Kolhapur, 159 per cent in Satara, 119 per cent in Sangli and 78 per cent in Solapur which has led to a flood-like situation,” he said. 

“In Pune, about 2,500 people have been rescued and relocated to safer areas. People staying near banks of different rivers should be on alert. The message has been sent to areas near Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Panshet, Pavana, Neera-Devghar, Chaskaman, Mulshi, Patan, Umbrak, Karad, Wai and other areas,” added Mhaisekar
