180 kg ganja seized from duo

Officers of the Pune Customs Department recovered 180 kg of ganja worth Rs 8.50 lakh from a Maruti Swift Dezire (MH 05 AX 6577) on Wednesday at Nashik Phata. The ganja were cleverly concealed inside bags placed in the dickey and under the rear seat of the car.

Pune: Officers of the Pune Customs Department recovered 180 kg of ganja worth Rs 8.50 lakh from a Maruti Swift Dezire (MH 05 AX 6577) on Wednesday at Nashik Phata. The ganja were cleverly concealed inside bags placed in the dickey and under the rear seat of the car.

Customs officials said, “Sanjay Ratan Rajput, a resident of Nashik, is the owner of the seized ganja and passenger Shirdhar Pratp Giri, a resident of Uppal, Hyderabad was accompanying Rajput. Both are known to each other.”

“The seized ganja was placed in 16 gunny bags and put in the dickey and back seat of the car. The vehicle was coming from Hyderabad to Pune. All the ganja recovered from the vehicle was seized under the NDPS Act, 1965. In the statements recorded, the driver-cum-owner of the seized ganja and passenger have admitted to possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the said goods,” said an official.

This is second case of ganja seizure by Pune Customs this month. On July 4, 50 kg ganja being carried in a towing vehicle (MH 18 N 9625) by driver Dhiraj Bhikchand Patil was seized. The driver of the vehicle was arrested.
