18 CCTV cameras keep watch at palkhi venue in city

Pune: There are 18 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras set up at the Palkhi Chowk area, along with around 600 police personnel, in Bhavani Peth. In order to avoid any kind of untoward incident while the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi are stationed in the city, the Pune police are on guard and taking strict security measures.

“The CCTV footage is clean and clear. There is a man deployed at the monitoring room to keep an eye on every movement that is happening in the area,” said Senior Police Inspector of Bhawani Peth area, Rajendra Mohite.

Mohite said, “We have a list of people who are participating in the palkhi. It is not difficult to trace a culprit among a sea of devotees. We are keeping a tight vigil and watching every person’s movement. If we suspect anyone not part of the palkhi or is just moving around the pandal without any reason, we catch hold of him and verify his identity.”

Meanwhile, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has deployed 16 ambulances, along with doctors and medical facilities at the venue,  to provide emergency help.
