Officials of Dehu Road police station have lodged a case of rioting, murder and assault against the accused in the case. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shubhan Solanki, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Dehu Road
Pune: A 17-year-old boy was bludgeoned to death by a group of seven to eight persons at Central Chowk on the old Pune-Mumbai Highway about 50 metres from Dehu Road police station on Monday evening.
Officials of Dehu Road police station have lodged a case of rioting, murder and assault against the accused in the case. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shubhan Solanki, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Dehu Road.
The police said that Shubhan and his friend Chetan Pande (20) were waiting near Central Chowk when one of the accused, Ankush Bidlan (19), along with a few other persons, attacked them with sticks and stones. The accused fled in a few minutes from the spot. By the time Dehu Road police reached, Shubhan had succumbed to his injuries.
Shubhan was rushed to Aadhar Hospital, which is two kilometres from Dehu Road police station, but was declared brought dead and shifted to YCM Hospital for an autopsy.
Police Inspector Arun More, who is investigating the case, said that Ankush was arrested by Dehu Road police. “Ankush and Shubhan were rivals and hence, Ankush and his friends attacked Shubhan,” added More.
A team of Dehu Road police were searching for the other accused involved in the case. Local residents of Gandhi Nagar said that Shubhan had studied till standard IX and was a habitual criminal.
The police seized sticks and stones used in the crime. Police officials said that Shubhan had assaulted Ankush and the latter wanted to take revenge and hence, planned the murder. Shubhan had gone to attend a party in Dehu Road when he was attacked.
