Pune: According to a survey carried out by Grahak Haqq Sangharsh Samiti across Pune, the delivery persons of around 160 gas agencies are charging extra money on delivering gas cylinders at residences or at commercial places.
As per government rates, the gas cylinders' cost in August was Rs 521, in September, it was Rs 595 and in October, it increased to Rs 644. However, the delivery person charges Rs 20-50 extra on delivering the gas at the doorstep which is considered illegal.
Milind Rajhans, President of Grahak Haqq Sangharsh Samiti, said, “We have received written complaints from gas consumers from Sinhagad Road, Bibvewadi, Wanawadi and Hadapsar and hence, hence, we carried out a survey. We found out that the Rajaram Gas Agency at Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pushpam Gas Agency at Bibvewadi, Dhamdere Gas Agency at Sinhagad Road amongst others, charge extra from their consumers. We have sent an application to Shahaji Pawar, Foodgrain Distribution Officer and Nilima Dhaygude, Divisional Commissioner of Food and Supply on August 31 about the problems faced by the consumers, but no steps were taken against it.”
"We are going to hold a protest on October 16 near Ambedkar statue at New District Collector's Office near Sassoon Hospital at 11.30 am against Girish Bapat, Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Food and Drugs Administration," Rajhans added.
He said Pawar is unaware of the problem and the memorandum submitted by the samiti. He said gas agencies are not allowed to charge extra for gas delivery. "But still, if they are doing so, then consumers should lodge a complaint with gas companies. We will look into this matter and try to resolve it,” he added.
