15 booked for assault and rioting in Warje

Three youths were attacked by a group of 15 people with sharp-edged objects late night on Sunday at Warje.

Pune: Three youths were attacked by a group of 15 people with sharp-edged objects late night on Sunday at Warje.

According to the complaint filed by one of the victims, Rajabhau Shelke (38), a resident of Ramnagar in Warje, a group of around 15 men, who had their faces covered with handkerchiefs, attacked him as well his two friends Vishal and Swapnil on Sunday night at around 11 pm near Ankur Jyoti Mitra Mandal at Ramnagar.

The three were attacked with choppers, cement blocks and wooden sticks by the group, which has inflicted injuries on their bodies. The attackers also pelted stones on the houses of locals and vandalised vehicles in the neighbourhood, said police.

The Warje Malwadi police informed that the attack was carried out over an issue related to an old rivalry.

The police have registered a case of assault and rioting against the unknown accused.
