1 killed, 4 injured as SUV rams into hotel

A hotel owner was killed while four others were injured after a speeding SUV rammed into the Anant Bhojnalaya at Famous Chowk in Sangvi on Monday afternoon. Police said that the driver had lost control over the wheels after the speeding Fortuner vehicle jumped at a speed breaker. 

Pune: A hotel owner was killed while four others were injured after a speeding SUV rammed into the Anant Bhojnalaya at Famous Chowk in Sangvi on Monday afternoon. Police said that the driver had lost control over the wheels after the speeding Fortuner vehicle jumped at a speed breaker. 

The deceased has been identified as Omprakash Ambadas Pandilwar (60). The injured persons include his wife Suvarna (50), grandson Anant Avinash Pandilwar (10), cook Basavraj Talpade (50) and Fortuner vehicle driver Sachin Jadhav. 

According to Sangvi police station, the incident took place around 1 pm. Jadhav was driving the vehicle (MH 12 KJ 0333) owned by businessman Nikhil Purohit. The driver could not balance the vehicle at a speedbreaker and the SUV jumped over it. “The driver lost balance on the wheels. It was running very fast went straight into the small hotel. We could hear screams of people who were injured but trapped by the vehicle in the small one room hotel”, said Ravi Salunke, who was shopping nearby. 

Amit Pasarnikar, Kapil Jadhav, Dhananjay Dhore, Gajanan Gajre, who were nearby, rushed to help the innured. They broke the glass of the vehicle to enter inside the hotel and rescue the injured persons. 

The whole incident has been captured by CCTV cameras. Due to Monday, most of the shops were closed. However, there some on the road who ran helter-skeltar seeing the speeding vehicle. The vehicle hit a fruit stall, broke cement pillar before ramming into the hotel. Omprakash was at gate and he sustained severe injuries resulting in his death on the spot. The condition of Talpade and driver Jadhav is serious. 

The process of filling an FIR in the case was on till late night.
