1 dead, 2 injured in Expressway accident

One person died while three others sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in rammed into roadside guardrail safety barrier on the Mumbai-Pune expressway near Somatane early on Tuesday.

Pune: One person died while three others sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in rammed into roadside guardrail safety barrier on the Mumbai-Pune expressway near Somatane early on Tuesday.  

As per information given by Talegaon police station under Pune rural police, Amol Shivaji Patil (40) died while Shrimant Krishna Bonde (45), Prakash Govind Waygade (45) and Suryaji Krishna Bonde (39), all residents of Silver Park, Mira Bhayandar in Mumbai, sustained injuries. 

According to police, they had gone to Kolhapur for pilgrimage. On Monday night, they left Kolhapur for Mumbai. Suryaji was driving the car. When they reached the bridge near Somatane, the driver lost balance due to drowsy driving and the car hit the guardrails. Such was the impact that the guardrails got broken and pierced into the car (MH05CM3555). Except for Suryaji, all others sustained serious injuries. 

Highway police officials with the help of IRB staffs took them out of the car and shifted them to a nearby private hospital. Amol succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
