‘Zero’ celebrates incompleteness

MUMBAI: Sakal Times caught up with Shah Rukh Khan in Mumbai for an exclusive interview. Ahead of the release of his film ‘Zero’, the superstar invited journalists from a few select media houses across the country for interactions followed by an informal dinner.

‘Zero’, produced by Gauri Khan and directed by Anand L Rai, focuses on the life of Baua Singh, a vertically challenged man, who is short in stature but big on love. The film shows Shah Rukh look like a dwarf using VFX. It also stars Anushka Sharma playing Aafia Bhinder, a NASA scientist with cerebral palsy and Katrina Kaif as a superstar, who is emotionally challenged. Slated to release on December 21, the film talks about celebrating disability and how despite being incomplete in some or the other way, we shouldn’t give up living our lives with love and cheerfulness.

Talking about ‘Zero’ in the film, SRK says, “Zero is a film about all of us, who think we are less than others or incomplete in some way. A real hero is someone, who overcomes smaller challenges in life. A hero is not always larger than life, but a zero who doesn’t give up can be a real hero too. And that’s what Baua stands for.”

SRK says that he has done enough of acting ‘heroic’ in the films where he is shown saving the damsel in distress. “I have enough of that already. Now I find it weird why does a man have to save or protect the girl? The girl is strong enough to protect herself,” he adds.
