PUNE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed that it has started the work of sustainable planning of city’s infrastructure in the first year of its tenure at the helm of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress failed to do in their five-year rule in the corporation.
Mayor Mukta Tilak had organised a press conference to commemorate the occasion on Wednesday. Deputy Mayor Siddharth Dhende, city president of BJP Yogesh Gogawale, Leader of House Shrinath Bhimale, Standing Committee Chairman Yogesh Mulik and former Standing Committee chairman Murli Mohol were also present.
Tilak said, “Metro railway project, Shivsrushti, 24x7 water supply project, Smart City, sanction of Development Plan of old city, optical fibres duct policy and bicycle sharing scheme are some of the achievements of BJP in its one-year tenure. We have also saved Rs 1,000 crore with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ decision of retendering of 24x7 water supply project.”
Gogawale said, “Due to lack of political willpower, many development projects were lying incomplete. Hence, people rejected the NCP and Congress regime and gave us a majority in the corporation. In the first year, we have given thrust on sustainable development infrastructure projects.”
He added that BJP completed major work in primary education, health, solid waste management, water supply, roads and public transport system.
“We are working on the biodiversity plan (BDP) land issue and on how to solve the problem of private land owners’ compensation. On parking policy, we have instructed the administration to develop existing parking places on Build Operate Transfer (BoT) and table a revised policy with minimum parking charges, so that the corporation will get revenue, as well as people will get space for parking in the city,” he said.
Bhimale, Leader of House, said, “Redsign of Katraj-Swargate BRTS corridor, Chandni Chowk flyover, riverfront development project, Bhama-Askhed water project, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for different welfare schemes, solid waste management by-laws are some of the achievements of BJP in the first year. We have to do a lot of things for city’s development in the coming four years.”
OPPOSITION CRIES FOUL
Meanwhile, NCP and Congress have raised objections on the achievements of BJP during their one year tenure. They alleged that one year of BJP is a year of corruption. They organised a long march to protest BJP’s claims on Thursday from Lal Mahal to PMC building.
