‘Photo voter slip not allowed as ID proof'

Around 73 lakh voters are listed in the voters’ list for Pune district of which 4 per cent voters are yet to have their photos pasted on the Electoral Photo Identity Cards. 

PUNE: Officials of the Election Branch on Thursday said a photo voter slip can no longer be used as a standalone identification document during elections, and a voter will have to carry any of the 12 approved identity cards to the polling station as approved by the Election Commission of India. 

Officials said people not having EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card), but whose names are present in the voters’ list, will be allowed to cast their vote provided they get their identity card, which are approved by the Election Commission. 

Around 73 lakh voters are listed in the voters’ list for Pune district of which 4 per cent voters are yet to have their photos pasted on the Electoral Photo Identity Cards. 

Officials of the Election Branch said about two lakh EPICs were received by the department which will soon be distributed to the voters. 

The documents accepted for identification include EPIC, passport, Aadhaar card, driving licence, service identity cards with photographs issued to employees by Central/ State government, PSUs, public limited companies, passbooks issued by bank or post office, PAN card and smart card issued by Registrar General of India under National Populations Register. 

ADDL POLLING STATIONS
With the increased number of voters, 233 polling stations will be increased in Pune district to take the total of voting stations to 7,899.
