Pune: This Dussehra and Diwali, if you are planning to purchase a two-wheeler or four-wheeler, chances are that you may not get the delivery of your vehicle on those days. This is because the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a notice to all dealers to not sell any vehicle on these days without the registration number, otherwise, they will lose their licence.

“We have seen many dealers sell vehicles without the registration number. It is an offence. If RTO finds any vehicles plying without registration number, the RTO and Pune traffic police will take action against them. Also, as per the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1989, rule 42, the dealers cannot hand over the vehicle to the customer without the registration number,” said Babasaheb Ajri.

He added, “Besides this, if any vehicle dealer is found selling vehicles without the registration number, the licence of the dealer will be cancelled.”

On condition of anonymity, a Karve Road-based two-wheeler dealer said, “Many customers want their vehicles on a particular day like Diwali. We always tell them that we cannot sell without the registration number, but they do not listen to us.”
