Lectures were conducted to help improve parenting skills

PUNE: To create awareness about parents’ role in children’s career decisions and improve parenting skills, city-based Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri Group of Institutes, in association with Greater Good Science

Center, University of California, Berkeley, has launched ‘Mindful Parenting Program’.

‘Mindful Parenting Program’ is a two-year programme where special lectures related to parenting will be conducted. Out of 200 applicants, 16 were selected for the programme, out of which 14 are from the United States of America (USA), one from United Kingdom (UK) while only Kaveri Group of Institutes has been selected from India.

Currently, this programme is implemented by the Institute for three schools in Pune, which includes Dr Kalmadi Shamarao School (Ganeshnagar and Aundh) and Kaveri International School, Lohegaon.

Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak, International Spiritual Teacher Nithya Shanti, Secretary of Kannada Sangha Malti Kalmadi and President of Kannada Sangha Kushal Hegde, along with other members of Sangha, principals, teachers and parents from different schools were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Tilak said that there are many problems associated with urban life where many times parents fail to give time to their children.

“We get to read about cases in which children get into some argument with parents or something does not happen as per their wish and they have committed suicide”.

“Modern day technology is helping us in a way, but to the other extent, technology is also destroying us. In such a stressful situation, a programme like this is a good initiative. The institute should take it forward and extend help for implementing it in municipal schools so that parents from underprivileged families can also work in this manner for the betterment of their children,” said Tilak.

The first session of the programme will be held by Nithya Shanti on January 19. More details and announcements of monthly sessions can be obtained at www.mindfulparentingindia.com.
