Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has ‘decided’ to install micro chips on uniforms of the officials of civic body so that officials can be kept under watch.
This was announced by ‘Mayor’ Shravan Hardikar at a civic body ‘meeting’ held at PCMC headquarters on Friday. The decision instantly drew loud applause from office-bearers and corporators. The ‘Mayor’ Hardikar seemed to be extremely happy as he announced the plans of the civic body, much to the delight of those present.
The original proposal was to install closed- circuit television cameras on the desks of officials. But it was converted into a proposal for installing microchips on the uniforms. However, these proposals will not be implemented in letter as they were approved in the mock General Body meeting of the civic body, where the roles of corporators and civic body officials were reversed, triggering a laughing riot at the event, as part of the 32nd Foundation Day of PCMC.
While Hardikar wore the robe of the mayor, officers became corporators. Mayor Nitin Kalje played the role of municipal commissioner, speaking over the proposal to reserve homes under Prime Minister Awas Yojana for officials, reminded ‘corporators’ how he helped them during the election.
Leader of House Eknath Pawar served as municipal secretary. The civic chief in the role of a mayor spared no effort to taunt the corporators who are known to make wild demands.
The officers as corporators also took several digs at the corporators, who generally go all out targeting officials in regular civic General Body meetings.
Chief Accountant of PCMC Rajesh Lande who was played the role of Standing Committee Chairman and questioned the decision of hiring a contractor without first putting up a tender for installing CCTV cameras on the desks of officials. He asked corporator Shital Shinde who was in the role of head of the store department.
