Pimpri: The Hinjawadi Industrial Association (HIA) has demanded Rajiv Gandhi IT Park either be converted into an industrial township or merged into the Pune or Pimpri Chinchwad civic bodies to ensure all round development of the area.

HIA Chairman Dr Satish Pai said that the Hinjawadi IT Park, which plays an importance role in the country’s economic development, is facing various problems including traffic congestion and garbage problems.

There are various bodies which are responsible for meeting the needs of the area including the local village panchayat, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations, Pai said and added that as a result, many issues are not sorted out on urgent basis. Thousands of people from various parts of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad travel daily to Hinjawadi and traffic congestion even for an hour is a huge loss for the nation, he said.

The HIA’s other office-bearers including, secretary Sameer Gadgil, treasurer Shekhar Sonsale and members Yogesh Joshi, Deepak Trehan, Chief Operating Officer Col (Retd) Charanjit Singh Bhogal were also present.

In the first phase of the IT Park, many software companies started their operations and infrastructural facilities were created later, the HIA office-bearers said. The authorities should now ensure that the needed infrastructure is created prior to development of the next phases of the IT Park, they said.
