‘It is the right of people to have clean drinking water’

Lonikar said it is the right of the people to have clean water and the government is replicating the initiative in different villages in Maharashtra.

Pune: Minister of Water Supply and Sanitation, Babanrao Lonikar said, “The government is planning to provide clean drinking water in all rural areas of Pune.” 

He was speaking at an event for laying foundation stone to provide clean drinking water through taps in Shikrapur village on Friday.

Lonikar said it is the right of the people to have clean water and the government is replicating the initiative in different villages in Maharashtra. “Clean water is essential for keeping people away from diseases. Rs 2,500 crore has been approved by the government for this initiative. Many villages in Maharashtra are turning free of open defecation which is essential to keep our water bodies clean. Cleanliness drive is being conducted in various villages,” added Lonikar.

MLA Baburao Pacharne said the government is working on initiatives for development of Shikrapur. “Shikrapur-Chakan road will soon be developed and people should cooperate with the government in all development initiatives,” added Pacharne.
