‘Form agriculture, animal husbandry units at panchayat level’

The commissionerate has proposed formation of independent agriculture and animal husbandry units at the gram panchayat level so that locals are aware of all government schemes related to agriculture and animal husbandry. Agriculture Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh said that such a specific unit at the gram panchayat level will help keep a check on proper implementation of various schemes

Pune: With issues related t agriculture and animal husbandry not being addressed properly at the gram panchayat level, the Agriculture Commissionerate has sent a proposal to the State government, asking it to update the Gram Panchayat Act so as to benefit villagers.

The commissionerate has proposed formation of independent agriculture and animal husbandry units at the gram panchayat level so that locals are aware of all government schemes related to agriculture and animal husbandry. Agriculture Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh said that such a specific unit at the gram panchayat level will help keep a check on proper implementation of various schemes.

“During our study, it was observed that there is a need to improve transparency and communication between the department and locals. A basic plan related to strengthening of the unit has been designed and proposed to the government for implementation,” added Singh. There are over 28,332 gram panchayats in the State.
