‘DRDO is using life sciences for Armed Forces protection systems’

Pune: Dr Tessy Thomas, Distinguished Scientist & Director General (Aeronautical Systems), DRDO, on Saturday, interacted with young scientists from the Defence Institute of Advance Technology (DIAT), Girinagar, near Khadakwasla, and talked about futuristic technologies DRDO is currently working on.

She mentioned that Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) that started from a humble beginning in 1958, has provided technologies, which are being used currently to deliver production worth Rs 2.73 lakh crore, for the Armed Forces.

“Science and Technology drive the nation, both in peace and war. DRDO is working on futuristic technological systems to be deployed in air, land and water; such as propulsion systems, AWACS, tanks, missiles and torpedoes, logistic support systems, micro and nano technologies, UAVs, ceramic radom & robotics. Apart from these, DRDO is also working on Armed Forces personal protection systems using life sciences and cyber security technologies for protecting virtual India. The future of defence technologies belongs to integrated systems for the network-centric warfare”, Dr Tessy said.

During her address to the faculty, officers and staff of DIAT, she appreciated the DIAT fraternity for their vital role in imparting training to the young scientists and for successfully conducting the MTech and PhD programme at DIAT. Dr CP Ramanarayanan, Vice Chancellor of DIAT, felicitated Dr Tessy Thomas by presenting her a memento.
