There are over 1,600 illegal structures in the Pune Metropolitan Region

Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) officials are in communication with the registration department of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited(MSEDCL)  to ensure no service is provided to illegal construction.

There are over 1,600 illegal structures in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), of which PMRDA has razed 100. PMRDA Chief Kiran Gitte said people need to be aware of these illegal structures so they do not buy such properties. PMRDA has decided to raze illegal structures on river banks and hill tops on priority basis.

Meanwhile, the authority has extended the deadline for regularisation of unauthorised structures under its jurisdiction by four months till October 21 this year. The move to regularise illegal structures built after December 2015 was announced by the State government last year and the local authority set a deadline of June 21, which was changed to October 21.

PMRDA officials said the building permissions department of PMRDA has a separate team which keeps a tab on illegal structures and sends out notices to such illegal structures on a regular basis.
