‘Decision on water cut by month-end’

“Officials are monitoring the water status on a daily basis. We have planned for water management this year. The preference is for drinking water and accordingly we are taking  steps,” added Bapat.

PUNE: Although there is a rise in demand for water tankers in Pune, Guardian Minister Girish Bapat said the decision of water cut will be taken after a review at tne month-end.

Bapat told mediapersons that although there is a situation of drought in the city, the authorities have not planned any immediate water cuts for the city.

“Officials are monitoring the water status on a daily basis. We have planned for water management this year. The preference is for drinking water and accordingly we are taking  steps,” added Bapat. About the decision of water cuts, Bapat said, “We will take a review meeting and then take a call by the end of February.”

Officials of the district administration said the demand for water tankers is increasing in Pune. Currently over 55 tankers are being deployed by the administration and the number is expected to reach 150 by April. 

Officials of the PMC said it will continue to lift 1350 MLD water untill the decision on water cut is taken. The officials of Irrigation Department have asked the PMC to draw only 1,150 MLD instead of 1,350 MLD.
