‘Cop attackers to be dealt with sternly’

“We will not hesitate in dealing with offenders involved in assaulting cops  to instill fear among them,” added Venkatesham.

PUNE: Giving out a loud and clear message to miscreants assaulting policemen, Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham during a media interaction, said, “Those involved in leading assaults on cops will be dealt sternly. We are going to take strictest action possible against such offenders and will make sure that such offenders should be punished through fast-track trials.” He made the statement while interacting with media persons on Friday at Patrakar Bhavan in Navi Peth.

Venkatesham made the announcement in the wake of growing number of assaults on police personnel in last few months.

“We will not hesitate in dealing with offenders involved in assaulting cops  to instill fear among them,” added Venkatesham.

He further said, “Traffic indiscipline has become a norm in the city and is affecting citizens badly. It will be a top priority to sort out the issue to ensure orderly flow of traffic in the city. We already had a fruitful discussion with the municipal commissioner and soon, a meeting between PMC and traffic police officials is going to take place.”

Venkatesham also talked about the rising number of fatal accidents in city and said that he will make sure that issue of traffic violation should be resolved and a sense of discipline should be developed among citizens.

While speaking about the rising menace of cyber and economic offences, he said, “Pune police need to be well versed in dealing with cyber crime and economic frauds and should improve their skills in dealing with such crimes. We have issued instruction to improve the skills of police in dealing with these two areas of crime which are increasing in the city. The police are also going to take the help of IT companies in providing training to improve cyber skills of police officials.”
