‘CM to decide on water supply’

PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has warned the Water Resource Department officials that if they close water supply pump without intimating the corporation officials, they have to face strong consequences. 

City Mayor Mukta Tilak convened a meeting of the Water Resource Department officials in Pune corporation, on Thursday, over the issue of sudden closure of water pumps on Wednesday evening. In the meeting, the Mayor declared that the CM will be conducting a meeting and will take decision on the Pune water issue.

Mayor Mukta Tilak, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Superintending Engineer of Pune Irrigation circle of Water Resource Department Sanjeev Chopade, Executive Engineer of Pune Irrigation circle of Khadakwasla division PB Shelar, PMC leader of House Shrinath Bhimale and PMC Water Supply Department Head VG Kulkarni were present in the meeting. 

After the meeting, Tilak told mediapersons, “During the meeting, it has been decided that the water supply of 1,350 Million Litre Per Day (MLD) will be continued till January 25. CM Fadnavis, Water Resource Minister and Pune district Guardian Minister will conduct a joint meeting and take decision on the availability of  water in the dams.”

Meanwhile, in the last two months, Pune Irrigation circle officials closed down water pumps thrice under the protection of police at Khadakwasla dam gate.

Political parties have started condemning the act of Irrigation Department and criticising the BJP over the failure of handling water issue of Pune city. On Thursday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena disconnected the water supply to the Pune Irrigation circle office, which is known as Sinchan Bhavan. The incident took place when key Irrigation officials were attending a meeting with PMC officials. After that, police protection was given.
