Pune: A survey conducted in 10 cities across India, with 1,524 participants, has revealed that 53 per cent people keep awake at night, either to watch shows on the TV, laptop, tablet and mobile phone or browse the social media feed.
In Pune, it was found that 56 per cent people are awake at night watching shows and checking social media feed while 33 per cent don’t feel rested or refreshed when they wake up.
The survey was conducted by Centuary Mattresses, which aimed to understand the sleeping patterns, deterrents and other issues. The 10 cities selected for the survey were Pune, Hyderabad, Indore, Visakhapatanam, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Raipur.
The survey highlighted that, nationally, only 20 per cent people sleep before 10 pm on weekdays and 5 per cent on weekends in the 10 cities.
Overall, in the 10 cities, 37 per cent people feel sleepy between one to three days in a week. Around 10 per cent feel sleepy every day while on their way or way back from work.
The survey also highlighted that around 42 per cent and 17 per cent people feel having 6-8 hours of sound sleep and avoiding gadgets before sleep, respectively, can improve the quality of sleep.
54 per cent people said on weekends, they sleep between 10 pm and 11 pm, whereas on weekends, only 25 per cent are able to sleep at this time. Nationally, a majority of people wake up between 5 am and 6 am on weekdays at 43 per cent whereas during weekends, 31 per cent people wake up between 7 am and 8 am. Around 68 per cent participants said they wake up during their sleep at least two times. The survey, conducted underlined that long travel durations, workload and less night sleep makes at least 37 per cent people sleepy between one to three days in a week.
Sleeping habits of Puneites
The survey underlined that around 40 per cent people in Pune sleep between 11 pm and midnight on weekends. Around 22 per cent people feel sleepy between one to three days in a week while on the way or back from work. Moreover, 39 per cent people in Pune wake up between 7 am and 8 am on weekdays. Also, 33 per cent people in Pune do not feel rested or refreshed when they wake up.
