According to sources, on Monday, Ranjitsinh was closeted in a late night meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ close associate Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan.

MUMBAI: In a fresh blow to the Congress-NCP alliance, after Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil’s son joined the BJP, now NCP’s senior leader Vijaysingh Mohite-Patil’s son Ranjitsinh will be joining the BJP on Wednesday.

On Tuesday Ranjitsinh called a meeting of party workers and his supporters at his bungalow at Akluj in Solapur, where he announced his decision to join the BJP.

The NCP has so far not announced its candidate for the ‘controversial’ Ahmednagar and Madha seats. Madha was reserved for NCP Chief Sharad Pawar but now he has declared that he is not contesting the election.

Suspense over the seat created panic among the Mohite-Patil family and their supporters.

Earlier in the day, Ranjitsinh expressed anguish on Twitter and sought the ‘guidance of the party workers’ who have supported the Mohite-Patil family for decades amidst a tussle with his 75-year-old father to grab the NCP Lok Sabha ticket from Madha constituency.

According to sources, on Monday, Ranjitsinh was closeted in a late night meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ close associate Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan.

After Ranjitsingh’s entry in BJP, the NCP will field his father from Madha to retain the seat. This will be an interesting fight between the father-son duo.

This will be the second major shock for the NCP which last week tottered on the brink over the candidature for Maval Lok Sabha seat, torn between the NCP President Sharad Pawar and his grand-nephew Parth Ajit Pawar.

Finally, Pawar senior quietly opted out of the race and Parth was nominated for Maval, before the matter subsided.

Last week, Sujay, son of Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, joined the BJP, after NCP’s refusal to leave the seat for Congress. Sujay will be BJP’s probable candidate from Ahmednagar.
