In a city that has more than half its population living in slums in poor hygienic conditions, has thousands of illegal constructions and heaps of garbage and dump yards everywhere; the civic administration has found time to send municipal inspectors to the residence of a Radio Jockey (RJ) Malishka to inspect the premises for possible breeding of dengue mosquitoes!
This is obviously not a coincidence, as this comes just a few days after the same RJ’s video ridiculing the bad condition of Mumbai roads and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) deficiency in maintaining them went viral on the Internet.
The Shiv Sena is now being accused of being vindictive and the RJ is getting support from thousands of Mumbai citizens and even some political parties such as the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena on social media. BMC officials are claiming that this action of inspecting the radio jockey’s house was a routine exercise but nobody believes that there can be such a big coincidence.
The most surprising part about Shiv Sena’s decision to target the RJ is that this comes from a party which runs its own mouthpiece called Saamana and keeps targeting the Central government and even Prime Minister Modi all the time!
Should the prime minister now decide to get vindictive against the Sena and target Thackeray’s residence like Sena is doing to a vulnerable RJ? If Shiv Sena takes potshots at BJP National President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi all the time over their performance in the Central government, why should some citizen of Mumbai not be given the freedom to do the same about Shiv Sena’s performance in the BMC?
After all, Shiv Sena is a party launched by a senior and veteran cartoonist. Should they not show some sporting spirit and sense of humour to accept criticism targeted at them instead of getting offensive over somebody highlighting civic apathy in the municipal body run by them in a megacity like Mumbai.
