There is a complete majority of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in almost all important special committees of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) but despite that, BJP members have failed to deliver the results. Moreover, the novice presidents and the members do not know how to take the decisions according to rules.
There are five committees which take policy decisions and sometimes responsible for taking important decisions for the betterment of citizens. But out of five, the president and vice president of four committees belong to the BJP and are inexperienced.
When any proposal comes before the committees, the members get confused about the procedure and have to depend on either the experienced members of the opposition parties or the administrative staff.
The appointment of the head of the committees is for only for a year and each month, two meetings are held of each committee. The members of the committee can submit their proposal along with the civic administration’s proposal for the perusal of the committees and seek their nod before forwarding them to the general body for seeking its final approval.
Even the committees headed by the BJP have not taken a single decision which they can boast of. Since the committees were formed a few months ago and many meetings of these committees have already been held, the committees have failed to put up a great show due to the ruling members’ lack of experience and vision.
Moreover, when the novice president or chairman try to push the proposal which is not according to the rule, then the experienced members of the opposition parties oppose the proposal and make them amend their style of functioning.
The Law Committee deals with all questions relating to the interpretation and amendment of the Municipal Act and other acts, regulations, rules relating to all matters of municipal administration, while the City Development Committee takes decisions pertaining to roads, buildings, water supply, parks and gardens, fire brigade etc. The Sports Committee works for giving encouragement to Indian and foreign games and other sports activities. The woman and child welfare department takes decisions related to municipal outdoor dispensaries, hospitals (including Infectious Diseases Hospital), maternity homes etc.
Recently, the city unit chief of BJP, Yogesh Gogawale, took BJP members in the special committees to task and ask them to put up a good show.
