The eligibility criteria for NET has been revised, as age bar for JRF has been raised by two years from 28 years to 30 years.

Furthermore, the pattern of the examination has also been modified this time. The exam duration has been brought down to three hours instead of the five-and-a-half-hour. It will consist of two papers, paper I and paper II, unlike earlier three paper system.

Paper I will be of 50 marks to be completed in one hour. The questions will be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research, aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidates. Paper II will be based on the subject selected by the candidate.

In early 2017, it was declared that NET will be conducted only once a year. This decision had not gone down well with many students and professors aspiring to attempt NET.

A detailed notification will be available on the website http://cbsenet.nic.in from February 1.
