“Traders’ problems are age-old and not emerged in last five years. We started the improvement of the business system by implementing Goods and Services Tax (GST) to eradicate corruption.

Pune: “Traders’ problems are age-old and not emerged in last five years. We started the improvement of the business system by implementing Goods and Services Tax (GST) to eradicate corruption.

It also improved the banking system,” said Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Railways, Coal and Shipping while addressing traders’ rally in the city, on Thursday.

Goyal was campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - Shiv Sena candidate Girish Bapat who is contesting from the Pune Lok Sabha seat.

Goyal further said, “When changes start, people have to face problems. We took the decision to change the marketing system for the welfare of people and the country. We changed the attitude of the people who used to believe ‘Sab kuch chalta hai’. We stopped corruption at a higher level.”
Goyal also criticised Congress’ stand on GST and said, “We wanted to give relaxation to small traders in GST by setting a limit of Rs 75 lakh, however, Congress insisted to make the limit of Rs 40 lakh. Therefore, small traders did not get benefit in GST.”

No issue of inflation in polls
In a press conference, Vijaya Rahatkar, National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, highlighted the lowest inflation rate in the country.

She said, “There is 2.57 per cent inflation rate which is lowest in the country since 1991. No one has raised inflation issue in this elections.”

“This is the first elections in which no one is talking about inflation. In UPA government’s tenure, there was 11 per cent inflation rate. All food prices are stable in BJP’s rule.”

Similarly, fuel prices are also going down. Modi government has made women-centric policies.”
While criticising the language used in the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, she said, “Opposition parties should have to use decent language. However, they are using derogatory words after sensing that BJP is receiving a good response from the people of the country. This should be stopped and people won’t like such language.”

‘Except Ambani, Entire country is with Modi’
* “Entire country is with Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, said Goyal while speaking to press when asked that businessman Mukesh Ambani is giving support to Congress candidate Milind Deora in Mumbai. He replied, “ Though, businessman Mukesh Ambani is supporting Deora, Country’s 130 crore people are with PM Modi.” He claimed that Rahul Gandhi will lose polls in both constituencies.
* After the rally, traders spoked to Goyal and registered complaints about complicated GST term and conditions, VAT notices.
