Is Vikhe Patil on his way to joining BJP?

MUMBAI: Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil called on State Minister Girish Mahajan at the latter’s official residence in Mumbai. This has given further boost to the earlier discussion that  Vikhe Patil is likely to cross over to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) like his son.

According to political experts, the discussion between Vikhe Patil and Mahajan was related to the ministerial portfolio that he may get after joining the BJP.  The closed-door meeting at Mahajan’s Shivneri bungalow has become a significant point for the future course of politics in the state.

Insiders said considering the past few events, it is Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who takes the final call on whom to give entry in the party. Later, Mahajan negotiates with the likely BJP joinee. The same pattern was witnessed when Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil joined BJP a few days ago.

In this backdrop, as soon as Vikhe Patil went to meet Mahajan, the talk of the former joining BJP became intense. The political experts are, however, raising questions about the presence of Ashish Deshmukh when Vikhe went to meet Mahajan on Monday.

Speaking about the meeting with Mahajan, Vikhe Patil said, “I went to meet Mahajan in order to resolve the issue related to admissions for postgraduate medical courses.” He added that he also discussed the water issue in Ahmednagar district with the minister.

Reacting to a question whether the Congress would take action against those who worked against the official candidate fielded by the party, Vikhe Patil said he had also heard about this.
