Mumbai: In a tragic incident, two women and a minor were killed after 14 people fell into a well while performing a puja. 

Around 11 women and three children fell into a 30-feet deep well in Ruin Bungalow on Dixit Road in Vile Parle area of Mumbai. 

Despite efforts by the fire department and locals who rushed to the spot, two women and a child were declared dead due to drowning.

Women from Vile Parle area were performing a puja on Tuesday night at a well on Dixit Road, where the fencing wall of the well collapsed. 

According to the fire brigade and the locals, the women who went for pooja at well were seated on a concrete slab covering the well while performing puja. 

The old and corroded slab collapsed suddenly and the group of women fell into the well. 

As the local came to know about the incident, they rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the victims. While the child and one of the women were declared brought dead by the hospital, the second women passed away while undergoing treatment.
 
According to the fire brigade, the operation lasted for more than five hours and they managed to rescue 11 others from the well.

The women from Ville Parle area were performing ‘Jivtiya Puja’, a ritual that demands women to fast for 36-hours for the long life of their children.'
