Temperatures to rise further across State

Pune: People may not get any respite from the heat any time soon as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry weather in the State till April 26, hinting at a further rise in temperature. IMD has also forecast that pockets in Vidarbha may witness heatwave-like conditions from April 22 to April 26.

On Sunday, Pune recorded a high of 38.6 degrees Celsius and a low of 20 degrees Celsius. IMD has forecast that in the coming week, day temperatures may go as high as 39 degrees Celsius and night temperatures may touch 20 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain clear till April 27.

On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature was reported at 44.3 at Brahmapuri in the State and the lowest minimum temperature was reported at 19.8 in Nashik.

Across the country, thunderstorms were observed at a few places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal and Kerala and at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and south interior Karnataka in the wee hours of Sunday.

IMD officials stated that under thew influence of western disturbances, scattered precipitation is likely over western Himalayan region on April 27 and April 28.

During the same time, fairly widespread to widespread rain and thundershowers are likely over northeast India. Isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers are likely over south peninsular India.

In these two days, dry weather is likely over remaining parts of the country. Also, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by two to three degrees Celsius over Northwest and Central India, thereby leading to development of heat wave conditions over parts of Rajasthan around April 27, informed IMD.
