Pune: The State government has increased the fee for providing police security for cricket matches. In 2017-18, the government has fixed a uniform slab rate for providing police security for IPL and One Day International (ODI) games. In Mumbai, the charges will be Rs 66 lakh, whereas for Tests, it will be Rs 55 lakh. In Nagpur, Pune and Navi Mumbai, the charges will be Rs 44 lakh and Rs 38.5 lakh per match for IPL and Tests respectively.
Last year, police security for IPL-T20 and ODIs in Mumbai was charged Rs 60 lakh, whereas for Tests, it was Rs 50 lakh. IPL matches held in Nagpur, Pune and Navi Mumbai were charged Rs 40 lakh while for Tests, it was Rs 35 lakh.
Earlier, respective police units used to charge as per the manpower deployed at the stadiums. After analysing the required police personnel over the years, the government has come out with a uniform slab. The amount is charged for security inside as well as outside the stadium. If there is any incident, then extra force has to be deployed, which will be billed separately.
In Pune, the matches are held at the stadium in Gahunje on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, which is in the jurisdiction of Pune rural police. However, the players stay in hotels in Pune city. Pune city police provide bandobast to the cricket teams that visit Pune at Lohegaon airport as well as the hotel premises. Bandobast with a police van is also provided when the teams travel to Gahunje Stadium for matches or practice. They deploy a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team and other teams at the airport to maintain security for the players and team management. Also, a transit bandobast is provided to them from airport to hotels.
