SMART will transform 10K villages, says CM

MUMBAI: The State government-run State of Maharashtra Agribusiness and Rural Transformation (SMART) program will create employment and transformation in 10,000 villages of state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a programme organised by the state agricultural department with the help of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). 

The program where 50 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) co-signed by the corporate companies with the farmer interpreters. Amazon, Walmart, Mahindra Agro, ITC and more companies signed MoUs with farmers organisation or self help agri producers group.  

Fadnavis said that the government has decided to develop agribusiness in the state and the World Bank also supported the programme. Junaid Ahmed, country head of the World Bank, said that the World Bank is always supportive of such initiatives. “This move is from producer base agriculture to marketing agriculture and that is good transformation,” he said.
