Skilling Courses, Scholarships for Marathas
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis makes announcement in the assembly
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the launch of special skilling courses, establishment of special hostels and special aid for students from the Maratha community in the state assembly on Wednesday after over half a million members of the community from all over the state took out a massive rally in Mumbai bringing the city almost to a standstill through the day.
The massive Maratha rally saw presence of lakhs of people whose main demand was to provide reservation to the community in education and jobs and death sentence to the culprits of Kopardi rape case. Speaking on the issue in the state assembly CM Fadnavis made some announcements. "There will be a separate hostel for Maratha students in every district and a scholarship, which is applicable for the other backward class students will be available for Maratha students in 605 courses," announced Fadnavis. CM further announced that there will be special training for skill development of children of 3 lakh farmers across the state. "Loan up to Rs 10 lakh will be made available for the Maratha students on concessional rates," CM Fadnavis said.
The Chief Minister agreed to form a committee to discuss and meet the demands of the Marathas.Fadnavis said in the assembly that a committee will be formed to discuss and meet the demands of the Marathas. The meeting is expected to take place every three months.
While announcing the demands fulfiled by the government chief minister said that the government has fulfilled the demands about the education and employment. "The government also allocated a funds to the Annasaheb Patil Arthik Vikas Mahamandal and loan up to Rs 10 lakh will be given to the Maratha youths for self employment.
"There will be separate hostel for the Maraths student at every district. The government is going to give a land and Rs. 5 crore for the construction of the hostel," he said. While announcing the scholarships to the Maratha students in the 605 courses the eligibility criteria also been changed and the students secure 50 % marks will be eligible for the scholarship. Earlier the eligibility for the scholarship was 60 % was must in the examination.
