Mumbai: The government has planned to make residential facility at about 200 forts in the State. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will co-ordinate with the Union government's Archaeology Department to construct such facilities at forts.
"It will help tourists to study the history and architecture of the fort. The residential facility will be of international standards and will attract foreign tourists for study," said Tourism Minister Jayprakash Rawal.
The State government is celebrating 'Tourism Season' in the State till October 25. During this season, tourists who stays at MTDC resorts will get an extra discount.
"The State is focusing on heritage tourism, agri-tourism, cruise tourism, Bollywood tourism, wildlife tourism and others," he informed.
"At forts, there is no facility to reside and study the history and architecture. With the availability of residential facility at forts, more and more foreign tourists will be attracted towards it," said Rawal, adding, "There is a scope for heritage tourism and the government will start it from the forts.”
