Mumbai: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal’s release on bail may cost BJP dearly in the forthcoming MLC election and parliamentary by-poll at Palghar.
Days after Bhujbal was granted bail in a money laundering case, his son, Pankaj Bhujbal, MLA met Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree. Though the leaders are claiming that the visit was a courtesy visit, but clearly it was more than that.
The meeting had also triggered speculations about the change in Shiv Sena’s stance towards the senior NCP leader.
On Thursday, Bhujbal appreciated greetings extended by Shiv Sena. Bhujbal said that the Shiv Sena was bound to have some concern about his health as he had been with the party for nearly 25 years. “When I was facing bad days, the Shiv Sena extended its support verbally. I was with the Sena for 25 years and hence, there is an attachment for sure,” he said.
Bhujbal’s statement and Pankaj’s meeting with Uddhav Thackeray may be related to MLC elections. Shiv Sena has fielded Narendra Darade, who was close to Bhujbal. When he realised that the NCP is not considering his name for MLC seat, he switched over to Shiv Sena and filed his nomination.
NCP has nominated Shivaji Sahane, who was with Shiv Sena earlier and an opponent of Bhujbal from Nashik.
This development clearly showed that Bhujbal will never help NCP candidates for the election, where Bhujbal has a stronghold in Nashik and in local bodies of Nashik region.
Shiv Sena extended support to Bhujbal to get the support of these voters from the local self-government in Nashik region.
Shiv Sena extends support to Congress candidate
On the other hand, Shiv Sena announced their support to Congress candidate Vishwajeet Kadam contesting from Palus-Kadegaon constituency for MLC election, Sangramsinh Sampatrao Deshmukh filed his nomination as BJP candidate from the same constituency.
Shiv Sena’s support to Congress will help them in Palghar by-poll. Shrinivas Vanaga, son of late BJP MP Chintaman Vanaga, is contesting as a Shiv Sena’s candidate. Congress has fielded Damu Shingada as their candidate from Palghar. Shingada was five time MP from this constituency, but now lost his control over the constituency. Congress nominated a weak candidate to help Shiv Sena in Palghar.
What Bhujbal said after coming out from hospital?
Bhujbal said that it was NCP Chief Sharad Pawar who called him first after he came out of jail. “I am positive that the truth in Maharashtra Sadan case will come out. “ He said that if he feels better, then he may attend June 10 rally of NCP in Pune.
