Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has refused to comment on the participation of Chhagan Bhujbal in party’s concluding function of ‘Halla Bol’ agitation in Pune.
Bhujbal was in jail since March 2016. He was granted bail on May 4 by the Bombay High Court after the court considered his old age and deteriorating health. Surprisingly, Pankaj Bhujbal, son of Chhagan Bhujbal met Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai on Wednesday. With this political development, NCP leaders have become cautious of avoiding commenting on Bhujbal.
They claimed they were not sure of his attendance in the rally on June 10 in Pune. Bhujbal is recuperating in KEM Hospital. Meanwhile, Pankaj met Uddhav Thackeray after Shiv Sena gave a reaction on his release that he got “fate’s revenge” for his bid as then State Home Minister to put late Shiv Sena Party Chief Bal Thackeray behind bars.
When contacted, NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade said, “He is in the hospital and taking treatment. So, it is too early to comment on that.”
Another NCP office-bearer said, “In the light of Pankaj meeting Uddhav Thackeray, the situation has become dicey.
“So, no one will tell you what will happen in the coming days. Pankaj should not have met Thackeray. Now, we have to wait and watch Bhujbal’s moves in the coming days.”
Krishnakant Kudale, a senior leader of NCP and Executive President of Akhil Bhartiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad from Pune said, “I am out of State. I spoke to Bhujbal Saheb on the mobile.
“He is under treatment and will come out from the hospital after three to four days. After that, he will meet people. Till date, he did not speak to his supporters. I don’t know about Pankaj Bhujbal meeting with Thackeray.”
Akhil Bhartiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad is an organisation formed by Bhujbal for the upliftment of OBC community. In January, the Parishad took out a morcha to the Legislature to pressurise the government to release Bhujbal.
A close associates of Bhujbal said, “Bhujbal Saheb will not take any decision before consulting us. Right now, he is under treatment. So, no one has spoken to him. Now, our priority is to pray for his speedy recovery.”
