Pune: The Mumbai Pune Expressway will be closed for two hours on Thursday due to mega block being carried out from noon to 2 pm. The vehicles coming to Pune from Mumbai will be diverted via the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway.

“The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is going to install overhead structure (gantry) on the highway near Khalapur and Shedung (km 30). Due to this, safety measures have been taken and we have put up signboards and video messages for the vehicles,” said Amol Tambe, Superintendent of Police of State Highway, Pune.

“The block will be implemented between 12 to 2 pm and traffic will be closed. So vehicles coming to Pune from Mumbai will be diverted via Old Mumbai-Pune Highways.

The vehicles will be diverted at Shedung to Old Highway. They will be able to take the Expressway again at Khopoli. All heavy vehicles will be stopped on the roadside during the block,” he said.

MSRDC engineers said this is the first of the 13 gantries that will be erected gradually on the 94-km Expressway.
