I’m here to stay: Fadnavis

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday confidently said  he is not going anywhere amid reports that he will be called to Delhi. He also dismissed reports that BJP State President Raosaheb Danve may move to New Delhi.

Fadnavis was addressing party workers at a State executive meeting in Mumbai. “Neither me nor Raosaheb Danve will go anywhere. We are here to stay. Moreover our government is here till 2019. Nobody can pull it down. Unless we go for elections, there is very little chances of anything wrong happening with the government,” said Fadnavis. The meeting was held against the backdrop of allegations of corruption levelled against a cabinet minister in the State Assembly.

In his speech, Fadnavis attacked the previous government and opposition Congress and NCP. “For the last 15 years, Congress and NCP were in power. Mismanagement in government by them is responsible for the poor condition of farmers in the State,” Fadnavis said.

“The battle is of perception and we need to reach every voter to counter the propaganda created against us,” added Fadnavis. Fadnavis blamed opposition parties for failure in providing basic infrastructure to farmers.

“These parties were looting the State for the last 15 years. Farmers’ welfare schemes like irrigation and investment in agriculture were stuck in corruption. This government changed the situation. As a result of it, common farmers are with us now,” Fadnavis claimed.

While talking about Maratha Morcha, Fadnavis said, “Total 58 rallies took place in the State. The Maratha community has silently shown its power. Maratha community set a landmark for an ideal agitation. Some leaders tried to take political benefits from the morcha, but the community rejected them,” said Fadnavis. He also read out the list of decisions taken by the State government for Maratha community, particularly students.

He appealed to party workers to be ready for the big battle of 2019. “We have won all elections in recent time. But the big battle is ahead in 2019. We will have to form a booth-level committee. There will be an internal app where information of booth-level committee forming and other activities will be collected,” he said.

Opposition parties meanwhile reacted scathingly to the speech, saying it is a reflection of frustration. “CM Fadnavis called us powerless, but spent his time levelling allegations against the opposition. It is nothing but frustration. CM should concentrate on governance,” said Nawab Malik, NCP spokesperson.

Congress State president Ashok Chavan said the government is not serious about farmers’ issue. “His speech was an attempt to hide failure. There was no option to the CM other than blaming media and opposition parties,” said Chavan.

The farmers’ steering committee said that the CM is not serious. “The CM is saying that farmers who participated in the agitation were not real farmers, they were political party leaders. Then we have to go to Reshimbaug in  Nagpur to search for real farmers,” said Dr Ajit Navale, convener of the committee.
