Heavy downpour cripples bus services between Pune, Mumbai

Pune: The incessant rains from last two days disrupted the MSRTC bus services as the transport body had to cancel many of the buses operating between Pune and Mumbai, on Monday.

According to information provided by the State Transport office of Pune, about 24 buses were cancelled due to less number of passengers. “Due to heavy rain, the buses were stuck in traffic which caused delayed for more than two hours in arrival and departure. But the frequency between Pune and Kolhapur, Sangli was not disrupted,” said  Pradeep Kamble, Swargate ST Manager.

“Around 14 trips of Pune and Mumbai were cancelled on Monday. The only reason behind cancellation is heavy rain and low passenger movement,” said BS Taru, Pune station ST Manager.

The officials from Pune division said, “Buses scheduled to operate from Swargate, Shivajinagar and Pune station towards Mumbai, Thane, Borivali, Dadar, Kolhapur, Kokan, Mahabaleshwar, Wai and other areas were running late through the day. Among these, those between Pune and Mumbai were the worst affected.”

“Buses departed on time in the morning, however, due to rain in Mumbai, they reached late. This caused a two-hour delay in reaching Pune thereby delaying all subsequent operations,” an official said. “Due to traffic issues, up to 10 trips from Swargate and other stations to Mumbai were cancelled. In Mahabaleshwar and Wai, trips had to be cancelled due to submerging of bridges,” said officials.
