Five die of scrub typhus in Nagpur

Nagpur: Five people in the city are suspected to have died of scrub typhus, whereas eight others are in critical condition, sources said on Friday.

Scrub typhus is a life-threatening disease that is caused by a bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi.
At Nagpur hospital, 13 patients have been admitted so far since August.

Four of the eight patients are critical and admitted to the ICU. The first case of scrub typhus was registered in Japan in 1899, sources added.
