Farmers will get loan waiver before Diwali

Pune: The district administration is trying to grant the funds related to farmers’ loan waiver before Diwali. Around 2.98 lakh farmers from Pune district had applied for the Maharashtra government’s loan waiver scheme, under the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana.

Addressing a press conference, District Collector Saurabh Rao said that farmers from 1,464 villages in Pune district had applied for the waiver and the government has completed formalities prior to the loan amount disbursement in 1,241 villages, as there is a model code of conduct applicable in 223 villages due to elections. Rao said around 567 objection applications were received, of which the majority were in written format.

“Many farmers informed us about other non-farmers who were not eligible for the benefits of loan waiver,” added Rao.

The collector said a committee has been set up to check for the eligibility of those farmers, against whom objections have been raised.

The collector said the government will soon be completing all the formalities in the villages that are under the Model Code of Conduct currently.
