Pune: The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) will soon file a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) regarding postponing of the date to declare the cut-off list for engineering admissions through the Common Entrance Test (CET), which is scheduled for August 14.

DTE Director Chandrashekhar Oak said there are many states, which will be filing similar petitions in the SC while Maharashtra will join hands with them.

“August 14 is too short a time to declare the cut-off list of the CET. Many students apply for re-evaluation and re-examination following the Std XII results declaration. Therefore, these children receive their re-checked results late. Meanwhile, the admission procedure in engineering college is already under way. So, their admissions get delayed.

“To ensure a proper admission procedure and all students get an equal opportunity, we will be asking the apex court to provide us more time for declaring the cut-off list,” said Oak.

Around 2.84 lakh students had appeared for the CET engineering from across the State this year. There are around 300-400 engineering colleges in the State.
