Pune: The Dhangar community has announced a strategy for mass protests across the State in to push for their demand for availing reservations under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category. The representatives of the community, including the current and past elected representatives, met in the city to discuss and announce the strategy ahead for the reservation struggle.
The Dhangar community in the state falls under the Nomadic Tribes, Vimukt Jamati Nomadic Tribes (NT, VJNT) category, while they claim, that like the Dhangads all over the country, they belong under the ST category, which has been denied to them due to a pronunciation difference.
Representatives like Minister Ram Shinde, Annasaheb Dange, Ramrao Wadkute, Vishwasrao Devkate and other Dhangar leaders were present at the meet held at the Pune District Central Cooperative Bank head office hall. The leaders have decided that the community will stage organised protests from August 10.
After a meeting with the Chief Minister, on August 10, there will be an agitation in front of Pune Council Hall. Thereafter, on August 14, there will be protests in front of tehsil offices all over the state and on August 24, there will be rallies at the collector offices of all districts. There will also be a ‘Mahamelava’ at Chondi, Ahilyadevi Holkar’s birthplace, on September 9.
