Mumbai: An unauthorised shifting of the column on the ground floor was the reason for the collapse of the Sai Siddhi building in Ghatkopar in July this year, a committee report, released on Wednesday, stated.
The inquiry committee, led by BMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Vijay Singhal submitted the report to Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta.
Siddhi Sai Apartment, a four-storey structure, collapsed on July 25 this year, killing 17 people including two infants.
The committee, in its report, pointed towards administrative lapses and recommended inquiry against ward-level officials.
The report states that Sunil Shitap, the main accused, should be prosecuted by the police and BMC.
The committee pointed in its report that the medical health officer and sanitary inspector did not have any direct role in the incident.
